Sometimes when you are looking for inspiration in music, it pays to look outside your comfort zone. Be adventurous, listen to new things and you just might be surprised how amazing music from around the world can be. Back in early 2018, I did just that and discovered one of the most beautiful world music groups on this planet whose origins were made on the streets of Istanbul. That group I allude to is called Light in Babylon.

Light in Babylon songstress Michal Elia Kamal once told me in our interview back in 2018 that their music was a reflection of the way that they saw the world, and the way they change with the world according to the places and the people they’ve met; and moreover according to the things that have happened in their lives and dreams. It sounds like a wonderful way of looking at music, don’t you think? That said, going through their back catalogue I couldn’t resist this week in finding something by them that encapsulated that spirit. Instantly I thought of Canim Benim from their album Yeni Dunya. It’s a fun and infectious track that celebrates life, love and music. Interestingly, earlier this month Michal and the gang released an accompanying new music video for it, which sees them once again back on the streets of Istanbul. Enjoy!

Canim Benim translated into English means my darling. You can find the lyrics to the song by clicking here.
