The Dreggs are Paddy Macrae and Zane Harris. They write songs that are easy to relate to with better Indie-folk harmonies than most could ever dream of writing. Fans across Australia fell in love with the Sunshine Coast duo following a string of singles (with over 2.7 million streams) and incredibly fun live shows since 2017. They return again today with their new single Call Me Home, which perfectly blends the same exuberance and carefree attitude of their previous work. The duo were kind enough to drop by and gives us a quick insight into their energetic new track.
What is the story behind “Call Me Home”?
As a musician, it’s really easy to fall into the trap of making something that should be fun and simple, so complex. ‘Call Me Home’ is—simply put—a happy and energetic track that should be enjoyed lightly. Whether you’re road-tripping down the coastline, thinking about your lover, or just wanting to dance around the house, we feel ‘Call Me Home’ is the perfect theme.
How do you think it brings your individual talents together into one sound/story?
Well for those who know both of us personally know we’re pretty much the same person. Both of us write different songs at different times but with “Call Me Home” it was a love song we had been working on together for a while now.
How do you hope listeners will respond to the song?
We hope everyone enjoys the song as much as we do. We want everyone to use it as their road trip song or the song they play when they want to Dance around the house. We had a lot of fun recording the song, so we hope it comes across that way.
It must be frustrating not being able to get out there and play the new single live – though is it true you might be doing a livestream performance of it?
Well we are actually lucky enough to be headlining the “Airwaves” festival on the Sunshine Coast on the 10th of July and then we’re playing two shows in one night on the 8th of August at “THE ZOO” in Brisbane. We can’t wait to get back into shows!
What’s next for The Dreggs as isolation continues to ease?
Well we have been super busy recording so we have a lot of songs to release in the future. Pretty much as soon as we can tour again we will. Other than that we will just keep surfing and writing songs haha.
